Mechanism of Action

The PET fibers elicit tissue in-growth. The PET fiber mesh and the micro-insert act as scaffolding into which the tissue grows, further anchoring the micro-insert within the fallopian tube and occluding the tubal lumen, resulting in sterilization.

Benefits of Unique Design and Advanced Technology
Correct placement across the utero-tubal junction is performed easily because of the design of the micro-insert.

Key features:
  1. Hydrophilic delivery catheter facilitates tubal cannulation
  2. Micro-insert outer diameter 0.8 mm (before deployment)
  3. Expanded (deployed) micro-insert is 1 to 2 mm in diameter
  4. 3.85 cm in length
  • The tubal anatomy variations in women are accounted for in the flexible, dynamic nature of the micro-insert
  • The trailing coils of the micro-insert are easily visualized at each tubal ostium ensuring confirmation of proper bilateral placement within the fallopian tubes

Essure in the Office Setting
The Essure permanent birth control procedure is well suited for the office site of service, since:

  • The procedure does not involve incisions or burning for sterilization
  • It is simple, requiring no other equipment beyond hysteroscopic equipment, (standard in many offices)
  • Office setting encourages minimal anesthesia for procedure
  • Fast, average procedure time is 35 minutes with total scope time averaging 13 minutes

Add to this the inherent advantages to both the patient and the doctor, and the decision quickly becomes not WHY? but WHEN?

For many, seeing is believing and we have provided below an actual office Essure procedure.
